The smothered chicken burrito is amazing. The homemade flour tortillas are the perfect wrapper for the mounds of shredded chicken. Smothered with chili verde and cheese....this is cheesey goodness at its best. I love the rice and beans as well. So tasty. I also think it reheats fairly well...which is a good thing since there's enough food for four meals. The guacamole is okay...I'd prefer it without the tomatoes and olives and a bit more kick, but that's just my preference. The chicken tacos are okay, but I think there are better chicken tacos elsewhere. The service has always been good when I've gone there.

The ppl are rude!!!! The decor is even worst. It's from the eighties. The quality of food has gone down over the yrs. Go to La Fountain. Same food, friendlier ppl, cleaner building with modern decor.

There's nothing like going into your favorite restaurant, that you've frequented for 26 years, trying to resolve a week old problem (getting a refund for food never received) and being treated like a thief by the 18 yr old hostess. Oh yeah, there's one thing that's better; being called a b*tch on your way out. The food has gone down hill over the years, and the service is unpredictable, but I am loyal. Yet, this time they have gone too far! I can honestly guarantee that even though they have the best fries & mole, I will NEVER step foot in any La Frontera restaurants ever again!

The food is good and the service mostly so. That's because if you get that older, blonde service lady (not hard to guess who) she's got our order wrong more than once, and instead of apologizing, she'll explain why she wasn't in the wrong, i. e, normally we don't heat the rice (the freaking rice was cold!), and the cheese in the burritos weren't melted....! It's always a game of Russia roulette when we go there. Usually, we're lucky not to get her, that's why we keep playing that game

This place is really going downhill. The portions used to be huge and flavorful. The Chile Verde is still excellent, but they are very stingy with it and the cheese that they charge so much extra for on smothered burritos. The last side of beans (other than the triple amount in the burritos to disguise the lack of Verde) and rice we got was laughable--size and taste. After last week's takeout order was a huge disappointment, and since Mr H has been complaining about their prices the past few times we've been, I don't know if we'll return.

Tonight I spent $20.00 on beans. Small combo, There used to be meat now it's beans. My wife had smothered burrito beans again. I'm never going back. It used to be good. No more

I've grown up hearing how great this place is yet im still wondering why?. I got t h e smothered burrito. The sauce was salty and for how big the burrito was there wasn't much of it. They did bathe it in cheese though. Top it off the lady on the phone was clearly irritated by my take out call. They've received several complaints in the past but will not change. Try the "La Fountain" restaurant on 5600 w if you truly want good mexican food and great service. Ask for Renee.

Good traditional Mexican food at low prices. I'd rather eat at this La Frontera than any of the upscale Tex-Mex places. My favorite dishes are the small or (if really hungry) large combos.

Really? Why is this place even open? I went with a large group and we were seated in the back room, which smelled like dirty mop water, suggesting that they at least clean the place. The food tasted fresh from the microwave and bland as hell. I mean, how can you screw up Mexican food so bad? The cheese was a greasy melted mess over the entire plate. The salsa was mostly tomato sauce. The portions are large, but I had no desire to cram that much tasteless crap down my pie-hole. Avoid at all cost.

This place is tight, I enjoyed a burrito that was bigger than expected! And paid not that much for it.

The worst Mexican food that I have tasted in Salt Lake City! I will never eat at this resturant again lets start with my order all I ordered was a carnitas burrito that for the money I felt that I was ripped off! It was cold the meat greasy and the baag of chips that I also ordered were stale the salsa was weak at best. Finally the service was so poor since I ordered my food to go the gentleman that took my order was rude. I travel all around the West Coast covering over 13 States have eaten all types of food but this place takes the cake. Keep you money in your pocket or go somewhere else.

Why oh why do some Mexican friends of mine rave about this place. Every sauce tastes like it comes out of a can. The sour cream comes out of a one-serving squeeze tube. The cheese is nuclear orange, plastic when melted and a radioactive red glowing spice is sprinkled on the Tostito-like chips. The salsa was not made on-site but instead jarred and shipped from some unknown locale. My gringo husband makes better chile verde. I had a combo plate and it was pedestrian nothing and uninspired. Almost everything tasted pre-made. The restaurant is filthy not just messy but DIRTY. The prices are high for the sub par quality of the food. My husband put it best saying while he's going to eat this because he's starving, he's never ever going back - even if it's free. We prefer freshly prepared food made using quality ingredients at a fair price. Sorry but La Frontera is a YELP YUCK.

Get a smothered burrito. Honest to god, go get one now. I haven't had one in forever, and I can easily say I think about having one once a week. SMOTHERED BURRITOS FOR LIIIFE

Good food, quick. Not the "best" but great for a quick bite. Lunch specials are a good deal.

The enchiladas were my fave . Even though i think the sauce was canned . Topped with cheddar or parmesean or none at all . Served with a side of lettuce and tomatoes . Smothered burritos with tons of cheese or without . Sides are beans and rice 1 or the other or both . It is ok.

Any place that only offers ground beef, with no shredded beef on the menu, is NOT qualified to bill itself as a Mexican restaurant. Chips are greasy and the salsa is as bland as the rest of the food on the menu. The one bright spot is the smothered burrito, if you're into that sort of thing. There are dozens of Mexi food places that are better than La Frontera. If you're a certified, wussifed, gringo this may the place for you.

The food here is ok, nothing I would say hey you have to go try this place, but for some reason they have a following and because of that I have eaten here way to many times. Many of my friends eat here religiously and every person will tell you the same thing "get the smoother burrito with cheese" (and a lot will say with onions) I have tried most of the usual mexican items on the menu and the only thing I have liked is a burrito smothered with their colorado sauce. Everything is just to bland and their tacos are terrible. The only good thing is they give you a lot of food for a small price and that is why I think so many people like it.

If I could give this place no stars, I would! I'm from the east coast and we just moved to Salt Lake. I was really craving queso dip and no Mexican places down here seem to serve it. This place got pretty good reviews so we tried it out. After waiting 10 minutes at our table, a server finally came up and asked for our drink order. Then they gave us these old cold nasty chips. Seriously they tasted like they had been sitting out all day! Stick them in the oven for a second to make them warm and they might have been a little better. I wanted a quesadilla but she said they didn't serve them there so I got a taco and my fiancé got a smothered burrito. The smothered burrito was a joke!! It was like super tiny with no meat or anything like that in there! The taco: HA!!! Another joke. It wasn't even in a tortilla! It looked like pita bread that was old of course! It seems like there was better mexican food on the east coast and I can't wait to go back home!

This place is similar to other La Frontera's and La Puente's. It's a casual Mexican spot that gets pretty busy for lunch. They offer complimentary chips and salsa which are decent. I went with the daily special which was a smothered taco with rice and beans and a drink for $7.50. Not bad. The food wasn't the greatest, but it's a step above Taco Time and the portions are big.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
